Difference between rugs and dhurries
Handmade durries and carpets both are used for
decorating floors and room surface. These are the best option to provide beauty
and full protection for marble floor as well as for wooden floor. Constructing
of home floor is a very difficult task. You cannot change your floor every year
or within 10 years. So use a handmade carpet or dhurrie in order to
protect your expensive floor tiles. Most of the people just want to know that
what the actual difference between handmade carpet and dhurries. So now I am
going to tell you some main difference between handmade carpets and dhurries.
The difference of constructions: - There is a
little difference between weaving a carpet and dhurries. Both are woven on a
loom which is called handloom but the looming structure is different. Carpets
are woven down to up process and dhurries are woven flat loom. Dhurrie has no
pile but carpet has pile. Carpets are hand tufted and hand knotted but durries
are hand-woven. Durries are reversible because these have no backing support
but you can use carpets from one side. Durries are woven by interweaving weft
and warp. Hand woven flat durries are made on small or medium sized weaving
loom. With weft fingers, the weaver picks up a specified number of threads on
the wrap and insert the colored yarn that forms the weft, hit it down in the
palace with the help of a panja or heavy, multipronged metal fork. For a
carpet, using a piece of wool and silk, they take one or two warp in the same
row and ties a knot around these and the last knots become a pile. Weavers work
mainly knot by knot until the design is complete.

The difference in durability: - Carpets are more
durable as compared to handmade dhurries because these are made in piles with
the very fine quality of material. Handmade carpets take many months to weave
but handmade dhurries are completed in maximum 3 months. Handmade carpet has
backing support and these are also thick as compared to handmade dhurries.
The difference in Usage: - You can use carpets
for decorating your floor as well as for decorating your wall. You can also use
carpet for wall to wall carpeting. Carpets absorb the sounds which come through
outside. Durries are only used for the flooring purpose. Durries are less expensive
as compare to the handmade carpet. Handmade carpets are mainly made of wool,
silk but the handmade durries are woven on jute, cotton, silk, hemp and also in
other fabrics. Handmade durrie is the substitute of handmade carpet. Durries
are a cheap area rug and is affordable.

The difference in designs: - Handmade carpet
has a very intricate design pattern like the tree of life, Kashan, Hamadan,
Qum. Handmade carpets are also available in modern design like contemporary
design, Geometrical design, Abstract design etc. but handmade durries are
mainly contained geometrical design pattern. Handmade carpets are more
traditional as well as handmade durries. You can also check more differences
